Oil Treatment Facility

The oil treatment facility (OTF) is designed to collect, separate, dehydrate and desalt oil-water blends coming from the wells of Yarakta and zanilovo fields. It is also aimed at reservoir water treatment and its further use for reservoir pressure maintenance. The OTF project design was developed by JSC ‘NefteKhimProekt’ (Kazan, Russia) in 2006.

After a 14-month construction period, the first OTF start-up complex was completed in August 2009. To date, the maximum capacity of the Yarakta field OTF's first stage is 700,000 tons of oil per year.

The OTF operates continuously. The following oil treatment is performed at the first OTF complex:

  • oil heating in heat exchangers
  • first and second steps of oil separation;
  • preliminary water discharge in technological tanks and horizontal ponds;
  • oil heating in line heaters;
  • thermal and chemical dewatering of oil in horizontal ponds;
  • desalting of oil in horizontal electric dehydrators;
  • stabilization of oil through hot separation processes in horizontal oil and gas separators;
  • reservoir water treatment in horizontal ponds with water-repellent filters;
  • oil storage in vertical tanks;
  • associated petroleum gas utilization at gas turbines, oil heating ovens and flare pits;
  • pumping of marketable oil.

Treated oil conforms fully to the Russian Government Standard for oil (R 51858-2002).

The second OTF stage is scheduled for completion in 2011. It will double the total OTF capacity to 1.5 million tons of oil per year. The current OTF’s throughput capacity meets the company’s production capabilities through 2012.

In 2013, another oil treatment facility will be constructed and put into operation. Its projected capacity is 1.7 million tons of oil per year which will allow treatment of the company’s aggregate production through 2018.
